 ~ Ashanti ~

Dancing since the age of 4, Ashanti has been involved in the Perth Dance scene for over 25 years.  Undertaking Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Theatrical, Flamenco and hip hop classes at various studios here in Perth. Ashanti holds Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dance (CSTD) Student Teachers Theatrical Teaching Diploma, as well as the Spanish Dance Institute’s Student Teacher Certificate.  During her dance career Ashanti has had many opportunities to dance around the world, training and performing in cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Los Angeles, Toronto, New York, London and Madrid.   She has been incredibly fortunate to learn from some of the worlds most well respected choreographers and dancers including; Luther Brown, Sho Tyme, Rhapsody,  Marty Kudelka, Jae Blaze, Shane Sparks, Brenda Buffalino, Alan Onickel, Soledad Barrio, Paloma Gomez, and Victorio Korjhan to name a few.

Having spent a year in Toronto under the tutelage of Luther Brown (DoDat) and other well known choreographers, Ashanti was inspired to bring her experiences to the Perth dance scene, and help Perth dancers get the same level of international experience, and tutoring right here at home…and so began Suriyam Dance Promotions in 2007 which grew to Realise Energise Dance in 2010.

As well fulfilling her dreams to encourage, nurture and inspire young Perth talent through the RED Workshops, Ashanti still continues to teach today. She teaches regular hip hop, Stilettos and Jazz Classes at the Dance Workshop (www.danceworkshop.com.au), and the Green Room Entertainment (www.thegreenroomentertainment.com.au) where she is also a signed dancer to the Green Room Talent Agency.

~ Selina ~

Selina has been a lover of dance since she was young.  She was a Calisthenics girl from a young age. In high school she was part of her school’s dance classes and curriculum, and also took part in Eisteddfods.  Attending Chinese dance & cultural after-school activities encouraged her diverse passion for dance.  Selina was quickly appointed as a permanent Chinese dance teacher at the various Chinese language schools, and then later on went on to form and own her own Chinese & contemporary dance company with two other dance enthusiasts.  Their company performed at many Perth Cultural Festivals and also the Annual OZ Concert held every year on Australia day.

In 2007, Selina met Ashanti and started assisting her with the Suriyam Dance Promotion (SDP) workshops.  A marketing graduate, and a fulltime Executive Assistant, Selina’s skills are that of high level administration, organisation, marketing and management.  Selina’s skills assisted SDP in developing and marketing high level and professional international workshops in Perth, and other capital cities around Australia.  It was soon realised that both Selina and Ashanti shared the same aspirations and dreams of wanting to inspire, grow and teach the Perth dance community with different, unique and inspiring Dance Workshops. And so the Realise.Energise.Dance partnership was formed in 2010.
